If you have teenagers, you’ve probably heard the term “ghosted.” My sons tell me that’s when you plan a date, a meet-up, make calls, leave messages, or text, but there’s silence on the other end. All the possibilities are suddenly no more.
That’s when you know you’ve been GHOSTED.
The first time I heard that I thought to myself, “Wow, I’ve been professionally ghosted many times!”
I’ve invested a lot of time (that I didn’t get paid for) met with potential clients, answered questions, gave free advice, sent follow-up emails, made follow-up phone calls, and THEN… when I was asked to “put that in writing” it was as if that prospect vanished into the twilight zone.
They hadn’t vanished, though… I’d been ghosted.
How often has this happened to you, yet you still invest the time and send the proposal expecting to hear from them within 24 hours?
I’ve done it. I get it.
You’re excited because this would be a good account, and they seem different than the other prospects you’ve talked to lately.
And so you hit “send,” and you wait.
(Cue the ghosting)
There’s a sinking feeling in your gut as 24 hours go by, and still no response.
You want to call, but you don’t want to seem too eager.
After another 24 hours…still no word.
You call and leave a voicemail that never gets returned.
Maybe you call again and leave another voicemail with the same result… NOTHING.
Unfortunately, this is quite common for many salespeople I coach, but there is another way, and it isn’t the prospect.
As a matter of fact, I coach salespeople that GET PAID to pitch to their prospects.
The solution starts with YOU.
